Nara-Kyoto Mountains, Japan
Nestled in the mountains that stretch across Nara and Kyoto, Yusando's home has watched generations of the same family make tea the same patient way. It's not a factory dressed up as heritage. It's an actual home that happens to also be a tea farm — exactly the kind of thing you can't manufacture or fake.
The Craft
The Philosophy
Yusando follows the Shumei Natural Farming Method — no pesticides, no chemical fertilisers. By their own account, they're the only company in Japan certified under it, alongside full Organic JAS certification.
The Harvest
Done by hand, by a crew that includes people with disability. Every pair of hands mattered.
The Process
Ryitora ground matcha by hand at a rate of just forty grams an hour. Patience made visible.
Your Cup
Tea grown with hopes for world peace and good health for all. Which sounds almost too gentle — until you understand the family behind it.
